Reasoned Peace

Rooted in heart, made for home.

Kumiko-inspired lattice art for the home, designed and 3D-printed in our small studio in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Kumiko-inspired lattice art

Our wall panels are kumiko-inspired: triangle grids of patterned pieces set in a printed frame, made to hang as art in your home. Traditional kumiko is wood joinery, fitted by hand; ours is printed.

First up

A kumiko-inspired postcard kit

Our first kit is a small lattice picture you build yourself. It ships unassembled, because building it is the point: the board goes into its frame, the back closes it, and you press the pieces in one by one.

Build it

Render: the kit pulled apart in layers: a few inserts above the frame, the frame, the lattice board with its inserts, and the dark back at the bottom
Render: the layers, pulled apart.
  1. Frame. Printed in wood-fill PLA (plastic with wood fiber, walnut brown), designed to hold the board from the front.
  2. Lattice board. A sand lattice of triangle pockets, one for each insert, designed to press into the frame from behind.
  3. Back. A matte chocolate back, designed to press in behind the board and close the frame.
  4. Inserts. Each insert presses into its pocket from the front. The kit builds the asanoha field, a traditional hemp-leaf pattern, or the same field designed with a sakura blossom at its center.

Change it

Render: the framed lattice with pink blossom inserts going into one corner and two sand inserts set down in front of it
Render: a sakura pack going in.
  1. Nothing is glued. Nothing is glued or sealed, so you can take an insert out however you like and set another in its place.
  2. Packs. The sakura pack, 12 matte pink blossom inserts, is designed to build two new designs on the same board.

Hang it

Render: the frame face down, showing its dark back, the hanger notch on the top rail and the pry notch on the bottom rail
Render: the back of the frame.
  1. Hanger notch. A notch on the back of the top rail is designed to hang it, wide, on a small brad or panel pin.
  2. Pry notch. A notch in the bottom rail is designed to let a fingernail or a coin lift the back out.

In the works: a stand

Still being designed and tested: not part of the kit.

Render: the framed lattice standing upright in a low walnut-brown stand
Render: a concept stand, not yet tested.
  1. Stand. A small stand we're designing to hold the frame on a shelf, wide or tall.

In the works: an insert tool

Still being designed and tested: not part of the kit.

Render: a sand-colored stick with a triangular head at one end and a small pad at the other, beside a whole insert and a half insert
Render: a concept tool, not yet tested.
  1. Tapping end. One end of a small tool we're designing is shaped to tap an insert down into its pocket.
  2. Popper end. The other end is designed to push a piece, the small edge halves especially, out from behind.

Our first pieces are in testing. Opening soon.
